We have melons!
We have not had very much luck growing melons thus far.
This is our first melon harvest, so we are super excited!!

Melons and Pumpkins at 116 Days
The melons and pumpkins are officially DONE! I cleared out the pumpkin patch and worked up the dirt yesterday.

Damn Beetles!We have left the melons and pumpkins in the beds hoping that
if the beetles had something to snack on their they would leave everything else alone.
So far that has seemed to work.

Here is our sad little melon patch.The cucumber beetles have done it in.
All of the melons are eaten on or rotting.

Melon Patch at 88 Days
Look at our sad Melon Patch. The cucumber beetles really did a number on them. Sara cleaned out some of the dead plants in hopes to save the Melons!

Hi, I found a few more facts online for cucumber beetle control:

2. OTHER THAN HAND PICKING THEM OFF, HERE IS AN ALL ROUND NATURAL REPELLENT THAT NOT ONLY WORKS FOR THEM BUT OTHER INSECTS ALSO. JUST BE SURE NOT TO SPRAY THE BLOSSOMS BECAUSE IT'LL DRIVE THE BEES NUTS!THERE ARE REALLY NO MEASUREMENTS....BUT TAKE X AMOUNT OF JALAPENOS, ONIONS AND GARLIC. BLEND THEM ALTOGETHER IN BLENDER OR FOOD PROCESSOR. ADD WATER AND SOAK OVERNIGHT. NEXT DAY STRAIN WATER FROM MASH (BEING CAREFUL TO KEEP MASH TO USE UNDER VEGGIE PLANTS.) JUST SPRAY THE WATER. ONE WORD OF CAUTION.....USE GLOVES!!!! THE FIRST TIME I MADE IT I DIDN'T BOTHER AND BELIEVE ME IT CAN BE A REAL EYE OPENER AT 3 AM.!THE YEAR I USED IT WE HAD A GRASSHOPPER INFESTATION IN OUR TOWN AND MOST GARDENS WERE WIPED OUT.....ALL BUT MINE!HANG IN THERE AND REMEMBER....IT'S THEM OR US!LADIES....MAN YOUR SPRAYERS!
